COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The long-cherished aspirations of the Devangars to fostering education among the youngsters of Aruppukottai and its suburbs who are not able to go for collegiate educations solely because of monetary indisposition has by the grace of Goddess Sri Sowdambigai Amman found its fulfilment in instituting this college by steps taken by the Aruppukottai Town Devangar Commercial Association, and Aruppukottai Town Devangar Moondru Mirasu Uravinmurai in the year 1970. Devanga Arts College is a Linguistic Minority Co-Educational Institution, having UG, PG and M.Phil., Programmes. It is affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.

“Quality Education with Humane Touch” is the slogan of our college to enable the under privileged people of Aruppukottai to have quality higher education to make them employable and better entrepreneurs with social responsibility is the vision of our curriculum.

During the year 2004 – 2005 NAAC Peer Team visited the college. The college was accredited and graded B+. In the annals of academic acheivement, the college acquired the status of Autonomy sanctioned by UGC in the year 2007.
In the year 2008, Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was introduced. The College was accepting the norms and conditions proposed by the Government of Tamilnadu and being keen on bringing about the autonomous status gets into this new structure from that academic year onwards. The Institution was assessed and reaccredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in 2010. Due to its commendable performance, the Autonomous status of our college was extended up to 2018.

Under the Autonomy, the College started framing its own syllabi. The College offers 13 UG Courses, 6 PG Courses and 1 M.Phil Programme. The College provides a holistic curriculum by offering a package of courses like Value Education, Environmental Studies, Gandhian Principles, ICT Oriented Skill based Courses, Non-major Electives, Job Oriented Certificate / Diploma Courses, Psychological Counselling, Placement training and Agriculture Oriented Research Programme on Vermiculture, Vermicompost and Mushroom Growth. Under CBCS system the College introduced Skill- Oriented Non – Major electives through all the departments. The Curriculum updation takes place once in three years through Board of Studies and Acadamic Council meetings.
Under Autonomous mode the evaluative system is governed by Controller of Examinations. Three CIA tests and Quizzes / Assignments are conducted to evaluate the students progression. In the summative examinations double valuation system is followed. The students are studying one Certificate course in First year and one Diploma course in the Second year for their degree completion. The college takes effort to promote research environment among faculty members and students by conducting conferences / seminars workshops. The members of all faculties are motivated to publish books and their research articles in the referred journals. The students actively participate in extension activities in the adopted village through NCC, NSS. RRC, YRC and Blood Donors Club. The students by rendering services to the society through these programmes realize the social responsibilities and develop the quality of good citizenship role.

The college has adequate infrastructure facilities to conduct the educational programmes. Nearly 76 class rooms, thirteen staff rooms, two air conditioned seminar hall, one closed auditorium, one open air auditorium, 11 laboratories inclusive of four computer laboratories, one state-of- art language laboratory and wi-fi connec tivity to satisfy the student’s needs on the campus. The College has a well established ladies Hostel inside the campus.
The college has nearly two hundred computers to impart ICT advancement in the academic scenario. In the curriculum of all the disciplines, ICT is introduced. The college has Internal QualityAssurance Cell, NIRF (National Institute of Ranging Frame Work), Internal Complains Committee , Discipline Committee, Campus Amenities, Placement & Career Guidence Cell, Students Counselling & Staff Development, Youth welfare, and fine arts, Research Cell Appeals and grievances & Anti Ragging Committee, Green Campus and Social Services Alumini & Parent Teacher’s Association, Sports and Games Cell, Anti Drug, National Academic Depositary, Awards Committee, Women’s forum, Planning and evalution committee, entrepreneur Development Cell, Naan Mudhalvan-SPOC to support students. A psycologist visits the College periodically to give counseling to the students to promote their academic advancements. A multidiciplinary Research “Journel “Devanga Arts College Manas” with ISBN Number (0976 – 8130) has been launched by research development cell to publish research papers periodically for our faculty members and students.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell was established in the year 2005 – 2006 as per the guidelines given by NAAC. IQAC enhances the quality of education by implementing the higher education polices recommended by UGC and NAAC to the faculties.
From the academic year 2020 – 2021 our college is under fuctioning of Madurai Kamaraj Universtiy, Madurai. We have followed the syllabi given by Madurai Kamaraj University Madurai.
Under the university mode the evaluation system is governed by controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Two Continuous Internal Assessment Tests, Assignment, Group Discussion / Seminar / Quiz, Peer Teem Teaching are conducted to evaluate the students progression. In the summative examinations, Central valuation system is followed.
In the long journey of the College to provide Quality Education with Humane Touch, it centers on the main principal and takes all kinds of efforts to achieve its vision, mission and goals which are inter-realated.
